YPT Showcase
Calling all DMTC Youth Performers! If you are between 7-17 (18 if still in high school), and have been part of a DMTC production in the past then you are invited to participate in the 2023 YPT Showcase!
(This is interest only - not final commitment)
What is the YPT Showcase?
-
The YPT Showcase is an opportunity for DMTC's youth community to create, arrange, and choreograph their own production. This event is a chance for performers to
participate in a series of songs, dances, or skits that showcase their talent and enthusiasm for theatre. It allows performers to show off the amazing talents
we have here at DMTC and take part in creating and guiding their own show. The high energy show will include a wide variety of performances including solos and duets of
musical theatre and large ensemble song and dance numbers. The showcase helps to fund DMTC's annual Theatre Arts Award for graduating seniors.
- Think of it like a Musical Theatre Talent Show!
When is the Showcase performance?
- The YPT Showcase performance will be one night only. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
Who can participate?
- If you are between 7-17 (18 if still in high school), and have been part of a DMTC production in the past then you are invited to participate in the YPT Showcase!
- We will consider allowing acts that include a non-YPT performer as part of an ensemble group on a case by case basis. Please contact us regarding this situation.
How do I get started?
-
First sign-up here to
let us know you are interested in performing in the showcase. You do not have to know exactly what you want to do or who you want to do things with. We just need
an idea of interest level.
- Then come to one of our info meetings to get all your questions answered and meet up with other performers interested in working in an ensemble group.
-
Once we know you are interested we will send you the application. There is no audition for the Showcase, everyone can participate. There will be an application
process where the performer(s) make a proposal of the act or acts they would like to perform for the Showcase.
When will information sessions be held?
- We currently have several information sessions scheduled: Feb 24th & Mar 24th at the theater lobby at 4:30pm
- These are for both performers and parents
What can I do as an act?
- Perform a solo or duet act
- Perform in a group
- Perform in one of our choreographed ensemble numbers.
- Perform a short skit or monologue
- Play a musical instrument
- Non performing position such as light board, sound, etc
- Other idea of your suggestion!
How does the music work?
- Performers who need music will be expected to provide tracks. We will have someone playing the tracks from the sound booth during the show.
Are there any restrictions on songs?
-
Unfortunately yes. This is a family friendly show so, all acts must be appropriate for all ages. Additionally, due to licensing restrictions, we cannot allow certain songs
such as those from productions currently on Broadway with no licensing (such as Hamilton, Wicked, etc.). As we need to approve all acts, propose the song you are interested
in and we will let you know. In general, songs from any show YPT has produced (and many from main stage) will be acceptable.
What are the ensemble numbers this year?
- Brand New You - from 13 the Musical
- Hard Knock Life - from Annie!
- It's Not Where You Start, It's Where You Finish - from Seesaw
Can I be in the ensemble numbers if I also have an act of my own?
-
Yes! We encourage everyone to be in our choreographed ensemble numbers in addition to any act they do on their own. If you would only like to be in the
ensemble numbers - that is okay too!
Can you help me find a group?
- Yes! We can help group people together for small group numbers.
- We also have an older performer who is offering to coordinate a group of younger performers singing "Sing A Song". Let us know you are interested in this group.
When are rehearsals?
-
Rehearsals will generally be on your own time - you are expected to practice on your own time and/or find time to practice with your group. We will offer rehearsal
times at the theater that you can sign-up for to rehearse on stage. These will generally be on Friday afternoons, or possibly early in the morning on weekends.
- The ensemble numbers will have rehearsal times at the theater as well.
Is there a Tech Week?
-
Yes, we plan to hold Tech Week the week of May 30th.
- Tuesday and Wednesday May 30-31 will be optional from 4:00pm-7:00pm
- Thursday and Friday June 1-2 will be MANDATORY from 4:00pm-7:00pm
Are there any participation fees?
- There is a small participation fee of $20 which includes a T-shirt for the performer.
- We would greatly appreciate help advertising the show, buying tickets, or selling tickets to family and friends.
- We are also collecting donations towards the Theatre Arts Awards and YPT activities.
Are there any volunteer requirements?
-
There are no mandatory parent/volunteer requirements. In this production performers will be taking on leadership roles such as Bio Board Creator,
Program Design, Costume Coordinator, Dressing Room Leads, Stage Crew.
-
We will need a few adult volunteers to help with dressing room monitors, lights, sound, box office, house manager/ushers. Please let us know if you are interested in any of these roles.
