Dear DMTC Community,
As you may have seen in the news, a Davis community member was recently arrested in an online child predator sting operation in Yuba city. This person was involved in many venues in the Davis community, including UC Davis, Davis Senior High School and DMTC.
We understand situations like this can cause fear and worry, especially to parents. We are united in our concern, and we want to assure you that DMTC has policies in place which require no youth to be alone with any adult.
When DMTC received the information about this situation, we immediately did an assessment of this person's volunteer activities with the theater. We also immediately prevented this person from further access to the theater.
This person interacted with the YPT program as a lighting designer. The lighting designer at DMTC does not have much contact with any youth at the theater. The light design job is mostly done before the show with an empty theater. The light designer is present during some of tech week, however, is never alone with any youth - not even the youth in the tech booth operating the light board.
We also determined which youth this person had closer contact with, and ensured that we could identify another adult who had been present at all times during any of those interactions.
We have confirmed that this person did not have access to the cast contact information for the YPT shows.
We will continue to remain vigilant in keeping our youth safe. We are constantly evaluating our program and implementing ways to keep our youth safer, such as our recent change to requiring authentication for access to rehearsal schedules.
We want to assure you that DMTC is a safe environment for all youth. If you feel you need to talk further or have any other concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for your support in this difficult situation affecting our entire Davis community.
