Plot Synopsis

(NOTE: This is the original 1966 version of Cabaret)

The scene is a night club in Berlin, as the 1920’s are draw­ing to a close and the rise of the Third Reich in Germany. The Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience to the show and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the CABARET. Musical numbers include It Couldn’t Please Me More, Willkommen, Cabaret, Don’t Tell Mama and Two Ladies.

Role Description
Emcee The host. Comedic and loveable.
Cliff Bradshaw Tenor - American Novelist travelling to Berlin
Fraulein Schneider Alto ‐ A landlady who rents rooms in her large flat.
Herr Schultz Tenor – One of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers and the proprietor of a Fruit Shop. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance.
Fraulein Kost Alto/Mezzo – Another of Frl. Schneider’s roomers. She earns money by offering favours to sailors – presentation of the character should exhibit a strong sexual comfort and commanding nature. Comfortable with stage movement.
Sally Bowles Soprano – able to belt the song– A British Cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub. A quirky character that comes across as flighty – yet at times struggles with knowing the darkness of the reality of her life as a cabaret performer.
Ensemble Kit Kat gits and boys. Some ensemble members will be chosen for featured roles
