Plot Synopsis

Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away to another world. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination. Including the songs made famous in the classic M-G-M film, including “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” THE WIZARD OF OZ is everyone’s favorite movie fantasy, come to life on the stage!

Role Description
Dorothy Gale

A sweet, innocent young lady with a streak of boldness, outspoken and headstrong, who dearly loves her family, friends and dog, Toto; Lives on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em & Uncle Henry, but dreams of escaping to a far-off place where she will not get into trouble. 

Scarecrow

Rescued by Dorothy from his dull life in a farmer's field, the Scarecrow's greatest wish is to procure brains for himself from the Wizard of Oz. Despite his perceived lack of brains, however, the Scarecrow is exceedingly intelligent and resourceful.

Tin Man

Rescued by Dorothy after rusting in the forest, the Tin Woodman desires a heart from the Wizard of Oz. He used to be a real man and was in love with a Munchkin girl, but due to the Wicked Witch of the East's evil machinations he lost his limbs and eventually became a man of tin without a heart. Despite his belief that he lacked emotion, he proves himself a kind and sensitive man

Cowardly Lion

Acts tough, but fearful self comes out in any scary situation. A mix of bravado and cowardice.  Good comedic timing and strong character voice needed.

Wizard/Marvel/Gatekeeper

Traveling salesman who lives by telling fortunes; a con-man but with a good heart.  Non-Singing.

Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch

Well-off, cold-hearted Gale neighbor who hates Toto/Wants revenge on Dorothy. Strong actress, cackling a must!

Glinda, the Good Witch of the North

Good Witch of the North who is the mother figure for Munchkins and Dorothy whom she guides through Oz; delicate and graceful.

Auntie Em

A typical, hard-working farmer’s wife who is firm & no-nonsense but also warm and caring. Also in ensemble.

Uncle Henry

Farmer whose wife, Em, runs things; Adoring uncle to Dorothy; Non-singing role. Also in ensemble.

Mayor of Munchkinland

Nikko, Head Flying Monkey

Leader of the Flying Monkeys with a few lines.

Ensemble

A large cast of singers and dancers for the ensemble, which will play Emerald City citizens, Jitterbug dancers, Winkies (witch's soldiers), Crows and trees, Poppy dancers, crows, trees,  munchkins (lullaby league, lollipop guild, etc), and flying monkeys.
