Titanic - the Musical, is the factual story of that ship — of her officers, crew and passengers — whose fates were sealed on that tragic night in April 1912. The winner of 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this incredibly moving show will leave you breathless. (Note: This is NOT a musical of the 1997 movie by James Cameron)
Role | Description |
---|---|
Thomas Andrews, the Designer of the Ship | Designer of the Titanic, who used the maiden voyage to fine-tune the ship. Has the most dramatic solo of the show describing the sinking. Relatively softly spoken but somewhat self-effacing. Sings very well. |
Captain Edward J. Smith | The commodore and most popular captain of the White Star Line. Was due to retire but persuaded to take the maiden voyage of Titanic as his final voyage. Must have a certain dignity and bearing. Sings Well. |
J. Bruce Ismay, Director of the White Star Line | Chairman of the White Star Line and de facto owner of the Titanic. Very business-like and well-spoken. Sings Well |
Frederick Barrett (Stoker) | Stoker, working the boilers. Some excellent solo singing work. |
Kate McGowan | Irish: Another Irish immigrant (steerage/3rd class) and works predominantly as one of ‘The Three Kates’. Romance with Jim Farrell. |
Kate Mullins | Irish: One of ‘The Three Kates’ from steerage (3rd class), |
Kate Murphey | Irish: One of ‘The Three Kates’ from steerage (3rd class), |
Edgar Beane | American: More content and less ambitious than his wife. More dialogue than singing. |
Alice Beane | American: Very upwardly mobile, providing a bit of comedy. Her most important singing work is a surprising amount of patter song. |
Isidor Strauss | Jewish American: 1st class. Owner of Macy’s department store in New York. Devoted to his wife. Sings well. |
Ida Strauss | Jewish American: 1st class. Devoted to her husband, refused to get into a lifeboat without him. Sings well |
Caroline Neville | Engaged to marry Charles and looking to make a new start. Sings Well. |
Charles Clarke | Engaged to Caroline, wanting to make a new life for themselves in America, he as a journalist. |
Henry Etches | 1st class steward (think a waiter and butler combined). Has served on White Star Line ships for some time and is very proud of the fact. |
Bellboy | (Casting can be boy or girl) Takes care of the passengers’ needs, announces the meals, and assists the other staff. Has a poignant moment with the Captain as the ship is sinking
|
Frederick Fleet (Lookout) | Look-out on duty when the ship struck the iceberg. A few lines in the opening, a few lines of dialogue in Act Two but an important solo in the Act One finale. |
Bandmaster Wallace Hartley | Leader of the Titanic orchestra sings the “Latest Rag” |
Ensemble | A Very large ensemble that will play other parts throughout the show. There is wonderful singing with the bulk of the heavy lifting by the Ensemble. Other roles will be cast out of the ensemble and just about everyone in the show plays several parts. |
