Eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, sets about restoring an old race car with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car is magic, and has the ability to float and take flight. When the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself, the family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

Caractacus Potts (male) | He is Jeremy and Jemima’s father. He is an eccentric inventor who cares deeply for his children. Must be a charming charismatic leading man with good comic timing. Must be a good singer, actor, and dancer who can command the stage. Vocal range top Eb4, bottom C3 |
Truly Scrumptious (female) | Truly is the smart, confident, adventurous daughter of Lord Scrumptious who quickly earns the Potts family’s trust. Must be a good singer, actor, and dancer who can command the stage. Vocal range top D5, bottom C4 |
Grandpa (male) | Grandpa is a little bit of a “nut job”, but loves Jeremy, Jemima, and Potts with all his heart. Though his experience in the military drives many of his interactions, underneath all his bluster, the most important thing to Grandpa is his family. This actor must be a good singer who is not afraid to play “over the top”. Vocal range top C4, bottom C3 |
Coggins (male or female) | Mr./Mrs Coggins owns Coggins garage and ultimately sells Chitty to Potts and the children. Coggins is funny and kind. Non-singing role. |
Junkman/Child Catcher (Male or Female) | The Junkman who is mean and a bit scary wants to buy Chitty and destroy the car for junk metal. This actor will also be playing the Child Catcher who hates children and is also a bit scary. Non singing role |
Baron (Male) and Baroness (Female) | These two are larger than life villains. Very good comic roles throughout the show. Must be excellent performers who can sing, dance, and act. The baron and Baroness should pair well together and not be afraid to over-act a bit. They should embody the comically inept villain, and the real threat to the Potts family. Lord Scrumptious (Male) | The all-powerful owner of the candy factory. Need strong actor for this non-singing role. May be played by the same actor as the Baron. |
Miss Phillips (Female) | She is the no-nonsense assistant to Lord Scrumptious. Good character role for someone who can “take charge” of the factory. May be played by the same actor as the baroness. |
Boris and Goran (Male or Female) | These two are the worst spies ever. These comical roles play off each other throughout the entire show and have some of the funniest dialogue. These are non-singing roles but should be able to do physical comedy. |
The Toymaker (Male or Female) | The Toymaker has been secretly working to save children right under the Baron and Baroness’ noses. The Toymaker is compassionate, clever, and never gives up trying to help people. Vocal range top A4, bottom C#4 |
Morris Dancers (Male and Female) | Pulled from Ensemble: Need male and female dancers for “Me Ol’ Bamboo”. Should be good dancers and singers for this show-stopping number. |
Chitty (Male and Female 4-8 actors) | Pulled from Ensemble: Chitty is the famous race car that beats the Vulgarians multiple times in the Grand Prix. This team of actors will need to sing and move together as one. Chitty has a distinct personality and a mind of its own. |
Sid (Male) and Violet (Female) | Pulled from Ensemble: A married couple who try the “hair cutting machine” and are involved in a little bit of stage magic during “Me Ol’ Bamboo”. |
